Minecraft Breakout EDU

Mrs. Whitwood challenged us to our first Breakout EDU of the school year!

A Breakout EDU kit is a collection of re-settable locks, boxes, and items used to play an immersive learning game. (Think “Escape Room” challenges for kids!).  It requires kids to think critically and collaborate with one another. If you’re not familiar with the Breakout EDU design, they have tons of great resources and ideas you can follow on their blog.

Back to the task at hand! For our Minecraft Breakout EDU, we traveled to the Minecraft universe to unlock secret codes and clues, all while racing against the clock. Would we solve the mystery in time and find the TNT?

Cracking the code….

There was so much going on in our classroom. We had students unraveling the Minecraft code, solving 2-digit math equations, and even hunting for clues around the classroom. After we solved each clue, Mrs. Whitwood helped us unlock a special lock box. (What a bummer that Mrs. Anderson didn’t get any good pictures of that!)
